FAQs

What is the Enrollment Schedule?
Returning families are given priority for enrolling each school year. They may begin enrolling the first Monday in February. New families may begin enrolling the first Monday in March. All new students entering Kindergarten through the Eighth Grade must take a Placement Test and return all required forms and fees prior to acceptance. Students entering our Pre-Kindergarten Program do not need to take a Placement Test.

How does lunch work?
Saint Joseph School participates in the Federal Lunch Program which allows for over 20% of our families to receive free or reduced lunch. Our cafeteria menu is posted on our internal website monthly and students may choose from a hot lunch or salad option. Lunch accounts may be paid at any time and families can keep track of the balance through our internal school website. Lunch for students in our Pre-Kindergarten program is included in the tuition price.

Are students required to wear uniforms?
Students in Kindergarten through the Eighth Grade are required to wear a school uniform throughout the school year. Our complete uniform choices are listed on Lands’ End. Fridays are Spirit Days and students may wear blue jeans and a school spirit shirt (spirit shirts may be purchased through our front office).

How involved are parents?
Saint Joseph School depends on parents as an educational partner. Families are asked to remain active in their children’s schooling. Attending Parent/Teacher Conferences and maintaining an awareness of your child’s academic progress is key to success. In addition, we require families to complete 30 hours of school service each year. This could mean chaperoning a field trip, assisting with fundraisers, sending in treats for a class party, serving lunch in the cafeteria, etc. There are many opportunities throughout the year available to families to complete these hours.

What are our transportation options?
Students may be dropped off as early as 7:55am and pick-up begins at 2:55pm (2:45pm for Pre-Kindergarten students). Students living in Berkeley County can be reimbursed for their transportation costs twice during the school year. Our school office posts the reimbursement information when made available. Students living in Charles Town may choose to use a PanTran bus that transports our students from the Charles Town area for a monthly cost.

Do you offer an extended day program?
Saint Joseph School offers an Extended Day program beginning at 7:00am and ending at 5:30pm (5:00pm for Pre-Kindergarten). There is an additional per hour fee for this program, monthly billing options are available.
