Saint Joseph School students whose essays about an imagined lunch meeting with a signer of the Declaration of Independence were deemed the best in an essay contest sponsored by the Pack Horse Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution were celebrated March 28 at the Shepherdstown train station.

Attending the ceremony were, from left, Charlotte Smith, first place in sixth grade (also a state winner); Clark Middlemiss, first place (also a state winner); McCoy Williams, first place in eighth grade; Charles Henry Stephen-Hassard, third place in sixth grade; Preston Atkins, second place in sixth grade; Khyla Huynh, third place in seventh grade; Lorelei Oligmueller, third place in eighth grade; Reston Barrow, second place in eighth grade; and Rhea Rawat, second place in seventh grade.

Also placing in the local contest were Owen McCreery, second place in fifth grade; and Jacob Severance, first place in seventh grade.
