A team of Saint Joseph School eighth-graders will compete at the West Virginia History Bowl Championship in April in the state’s capital.
Jack Allen, Freyja Dreflak, Eliza McCarthy and Karissa Sood qualified to compete in the April 25 event after winning on March 12 at the History Bowl Play-In tournament in Buckhannon, W.Va.
Also representing the Martinsburg Catholic school at the play-in was the team of Layla Al-Saleh, Grant McDonald, Adam Sharp and Tristan Wilson, who had to compete against their SJS classmates.
In Buckhannon, 32 teams vied for the top eight positions so they could be among the final 24 teams participating in the state competition at the Capitol Complex.
In the regional and state history bowls, teams of eighth-graders in public, private and home-school education programs from around the state face off in academic competitions focusing on West Virginia history, literature, arts, architecture, geography and culture.
