A Saint Joseph School seventh-grader’s artwork placed first at the state level in the Catholic Daughters National Education Contest.

Reston Barrow placed first at the local level for his drawing featuring a sword, heart and dove on the theme “How do I feel when I forgive?” It then got top billing from the West Virginia Catholic Daughters of the Americas, so it has moved on for judging at the national level.

Here, Barrow, center, is presented with a certificate and a monetary award during an assembly in the Martinsburg school’s gym on May 2 by Lisa Ceravalo, right, regent of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 392. At left is the Rev. Thomas Gallagher, pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Martinsburg and chaplain of the local CDA court.
