Saint Joseph School recently received a $1,000 grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation’s McMillan Family Fund to support its Safety and Security Committee Fund.
In an effort to increase security on the school campus, the school is implementing a facial-recognition system, increased the number of security cameras on the premises and added protective coverings for some glass in the main building at 110 E. Stephen St. Vestibules are being installed in all three school buildings, and the outdoor lights on the main building will be replaced with LED varieties.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation and the McMillan Family Fund for this wonderful donation,” said Principal Maria Byrd. “The safety of our students, staff and school family members is a top priority, and this generous gift enables us to continue taking steps to ensure they are protected.”
The Community Foundation was established in 1995 and awards more than $1 million in grants and scholarships annually. With more than 280 endowed funds and assets of just more than $35 million, EWVCF is one of the largest grant-making organizations serving the Eastern Panhandle.
The foundation is at the historic Caperton Train Station at 229 E. Martin St., Suite 4, in Martinsburg. For more information, go to www.EWVCF.org; or call 304-264-0353.
