Saint Joseph School is offering several opportunities to keep kids’ brains and bodies active over the summer. Please read these descriptions carefully and contact the appropriate person for each.

For infants through rising first-graders

Free ‘Just the Facts’ Math Tutoring

Wouldn’t math be easier if your child could remember those addition, subtraction and multiplication facts? During June and July, Saint Joseph School will offer free tutoring to reinforce math facts for students entering grades two to five. Siblings will be placed in the same session.

The “Just the Facts” program will feature two sessions per day: 9 to 10 a.m. AND 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. It will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the weeks of:
June 13-15 June 27-29
June 20-22 July 11-13

Space will be limited to 15 students per session. No snacks are needed for any of the sessions.

Supplies needed per student:
5 sharpened pencils
2 dry-erase markers
1 large eraser

Summer school focused on English Language Arts and Math

Fourth-grade teacher Meridyth Fiorita is offering a summer school program for those entering grades three through six from 9 a.m. to noon July 24 to 28 and July 31 to Aug. 4 at SJS. The focus will be on ELA and math.

The cost is $30 per day.

Coding camp

Sonia Ala, who led our SJS Lego robotics team, is offering a coding summer camp in the SJS STEM room for students going into grades three through six. There are two sessions: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19 to 23 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 26 to 30.

The cost is $200 per week, per child, which includes a T-shirt.

Prevent Summer Slide

Shirleen Moore, a National Board-certified teacher who led our homework help club this year, is offering a content “boot camp” from July 31 to Aug. 4 and Aug. 7 to 11 at her home. She will provide help to children who are entering grades one to six for two hours a day to review reading and math content standards from the grade they just completed. Times will vary based on grade levels and participants.

The cost is $300 per student, per week, payable to Moore.

She also offers private one-hour tutoring sessions for $30 an hour.
