Gabriel Campos, an eighth-grader at Saint Joseph School, served Feb. 15 as an honorary Berkeley County commissioner.
After being sworn in by County Commissioner Steve Catlett, the Martinsburg teen told the group that he plans to attend Hedgesville High School after finishing the academic year at SJS. He enjoys science – particularly biology and paleontology – and is considering being a teacher, perhaps at the middle school level.
Gabriel told the commissioners that he and his family enjoy spending time at War Memorial Park, particularly watching the antics of the ducks and geese there, and they also admire the wildlife that visits the bird feeders at their home.
Before Catlett, Commission Vice President Eddie Gochenour and Commissioner James Barnhart took a short break, Gabriel shared his concerns about aggressive drivers near the school campus and also suggested that another movie theater be opened in the city to accommodate the entertainment needs of the growing community.
