SJS is seeking a classroom teacher who may be assigned to teach students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The teacher will promote academic and social behaviors in children in a developmentally appropriate manner and reinforce these behaviors on a consistent basis. The teacher will also foster independence through the gradual release of responsibilities by allowing students to develop the skills to perform tasks without assistance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Establish a safe and supportive environment that is conducive to learning
- Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using WV College and Career Readiness standards
- Adhere to SJS assessment and grading policies and guidelines
- Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback regularly
- Ensure that students meet educational standards and school performance goals for their grade level
- Adopt a data-driven attitude toward measuring learner progress
- Tend to individual student needs
- Demonstrate an awareness of different student backgrounds and cultures
- Communicate regularly with parents
- Provide extra support to students who need it
- Monitor student growth to identify strengths and areas where improvement is needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Hold or be eligible for a West Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in elementary education
- Demonstrate knowledge of elementary content, curriculum and methodology of effective teaching
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators and parents
- Demonstrate skill in oral and written communications; excellent human-relations skills
- Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word and Excel
