SJS is seeking a classroom teacher who may be assigned to teach students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The teacher will promote academic and social behaviors in children in a developmentally appropriate manner and reinforce these behaviors on a consistent basis. The teacher will also foster independence through the gradual release of responsibilities by allowing students to develop the skills to perform tasks without assistance.

Essential Responsibilities

  •  Establish a safe and supportive environment that is conducive to learning
  •  Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using WV  College and Career Readiness standards
  • Adhere to SJS assessment and grading policies and guidelines
  • Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback regularly
  • Ensure that students meet educational standards and school performance goals for their grade level
  • Adopt a data-driven attitude toward measuring learner progress
  • Tend to individual student needs
  • Demonstrate an awareness of different student backgrounds and cultures
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Provide extra support to students who need it
  • Monitor student growth to identify strengths and areas where improvement is needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Hold or be eligible for a West Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in elementary education
  • Demonstrate knowledge of elementary content, curriculum and methodology of effective teaching 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators and parents
  • Demonstrate skill in oral and written communications; excellent human-relations skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word and Excel
