Three of our former eighth-graders attended the Golden Horseshoe ceremony June 13 at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston, W.Va.
Jackson Allen, Freyja Dreflak and Karissa Sood were among 226 students honored by the West Virginia Department of Education as knights of the Golden Horseshoe Society for demonstrating exceptional knowledge of West Virginia history on the state-administered exam. Tran Dinh was the other honoree from SJS.
The four Crusaders were among 11 Berkeley County students named Golden Horseshoe Award winners for 2023.
Since 2012, 31 students from Saint Joseph School have won the award. From 2016-23, SJS eighth-graders comprised 35% of all Berkeley County winners.
